The
Earth Kitchen
The
Earth Kitchen is a community, wholly women-driven project initiated by
Earth Women, a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO), founded in
2002 by South African women, wanting to contribute to true grassroots
women’s development.
Since
Spring of 2003, Earth Women has been based at the KwaNgcolosi Tribal
Courthouse in Mshazi. It was here in the KwaNgcolosi community, while
Earth Women volunteers held hands-on workshops on women’s upliftment
issues and wholesome food preparation, that the Earth Kitchen ultimately
manifested itself as an empowerment and women’s job creation mechanism.
The
Earth Kitchen at Cube House, on Old Main Road in the Hillcrest CBD has
been operating for the past year, creating long-term, meaningful and
sustainable employment for 6 local women.
We
prepare fresh and tasty, wholesome food take-aways at a very affordable
price, and are open Monday to Friday. The women are the decision makers
and are therefore able to take charge of their
own destiny.
Your
support of this women-empowering project will enable us to make the next
Earth Kitchen a reality, where we can create a sustainable income for more
local women. Your much needed help will also go a long way in furthering
the success of locally managed, women driven micro-enterprise.
Please
help us make this one small step for women into a giant leap for
womankind, their families, community and our greater society.
