Who
are Earth Women?
Earth
Women is a non-profit, women-centred organization that was born in August 2002. Our mission
is to empower women to uplift themselves and develop their
communities. We realize that women have had little
power to take control of their destiny and affect environmental and social policies in the past,
we are helping to change that.
What
do Earth Women do?
We
help women to achieve their fullest potential via workshops,
gatherings and women-driven employment opportunities. We aim to promote the intellectual,
psychological, spiritual and physical health and well-being of
women through mechanisms devised and put into action by
themselves.
We foster women's development and encourage and support
children's organic home gardening and community participation.
Why
do Earth Women do what they do?
Our
guiding principle: women's voices, women's choices
We
place primary focus on women. By empowering the women, you empower the whole family. We
have also found that a women-based approach to community, health and
environmental matters is highly effective as women carry these
impacts in a unique way. Furthermore, women possess important potential to powerfully influence
those around her. We believe women are the backbone of
society and with their nurturing instinct, can pave the way for
the true development of Africa.
Where
do Earth Women do what they do?
Since
2002, Earth
Women has held weekly workshops in needy communities all around
Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. Rural and peri-urban areas (Newlands West, Newtown,
Inanda, Ntuzuma among others) had been the focal point of our work.
We are now focusing our efforts on communities in the Valley of
a Thousand Hills which is the so-called epicentre of the Aids
pandemic. Since basing ourselves in Mshazi, KwaNgcolosi in the
Spring of 2003, we have prioritised wholesome employment
opportunities for the local women which we intend to continue.
How
do Earth Women do what they do?
We
rely on the generosity of humanity until our projects are able
to sustain themselves. As you may understand, we are greatly under-resourced.
We need your assistance in order to further our message and live
out our passion for women's development. Help us to regenerate wholesome
opportunities for disadvantaged women and nurture community participation in South Africa and beyond.
Please support
us.
